About the area
Sozopol - a point of many peoples and cultures .The town is located in the Burgas Bay, a 34 km. south of the third largest city in Bulgaria - Burgas, which has an international airport. The transfer from the airport takes less than 30 minutes. Sozopol is defined as the oldest and most artistic town of the southern Black Sea coast, mainly because of the atmosphere and way of life. The city is divided contingent of 2 parts - the Old and New town, as the old part is located on the picturesque rocky peninsula.
The Bay "Kavatsite is located in the southern part of the town of Sozopol as the area is so called because of the large poplar, which grow there from the Turkish word" kavak. The wide sandy strip is closed on both sides by rocky peninsulas. The Bay is protected from the dangerous north and northwest winds from Cape St. Messiah "and Cape St. Angelina ". There are spacious and unrocky beach, which borders with a forest. The Bay was part of the ancient polis Apollonia and is used as a port. A very rare plant, namely sand liliya grows only in this region and can be seen on the sand dunes. All attempts that have made it to be carried in other parts of the Black Sea, were unsuccessful.
Sozopol has two tourist ports. And since it is located in the south, sunlight days here are from early May until October. Besides the two main beach - North and South, there are very attractive small beach strips in the south, where lovers of water sports are excellent conditions for surfing, diving and others. Sozopol is a popular tourist destination, a favorite place of artistic community in Bulgaria and thousands of foreign tourists. Each year in September the city hosts the Festival of Arts - Apollonia.
